DONNY CATES EXCLUSIVE TO MARVEL COMICS

Marvel Comics has announced that writer Donny Cates is exclusive with the publisher and will team with artist Gabriel Hernandez Walta on Doctor Strange.

"I've wanted to write for Marvel since I was a little kid, so the opportunity to come into this incredible world and play with all of these amazing characters is a dream come true for me," said Cates. "Everyone at Marvel has been great to work with, and we've put our collective heads together to make some really special stories for the fans. I've never been more excited to tell the stories that I'm telling today. I feel like a kid again. Albeit a kid who is inflicting...just terrible things upon all your favorite characters."

Cates takes over Doctor Strange in November, with the new creative team comes a new Sorcerer Supreme: Loki, the Norse god of Mischief.

"There's a new sheriff in town...and he's not really the trustworthy type," Cates said. "That's right, kids...Loki has taken the mantle of Sorcerer Supreme from our good Doctor! What does that mean for Stephen? And what lengths will Strange go to see his title and his home returned to him? I'll say this...you can guess all you like, but there is absolutely no way anyone will see the answers to these questions coming. As a dedicated Marvel fan myself, I can confidently say the events of this arc are some of the most shocking things in Marvel comics to date. I'm so excited to see what everyone thinks!"

"Donny brings big ideas to the table, and that's going to be immediately apparent in his first projects," said Marvel EIC, Axel Alonso. "We expect him to be a major contributor to the Marvel Universe's evolution in the coming year...and beyond."

DEADPOOL VS. OLD MAN LOGAN

Marvel Comics has announced an Oct. 18 launch for Deadpool vs. Old Man Logan, a five-issue series written by Declan Shalvey, with art by Mike Henderson and covers by Shalvey, Ron Lim and Rafael Albuquerque.

"Deadpool vs. Old Man Logan is has everything I've wanted to see in either a Deadpool book, or a Wolverine book," Shalvey said. "We get to see both characters be the best at what they do, while also getting to see them be the classic odd-couple. Both characters naturally bump heads against each other, which is a lot of fun to write. I've been so fortunate to have Heather Antos edit this book. It's been a dream working on it, she's done everything she could to make this book what I want it to be, and a great working experience to boot."

Here's how Marvel describes the story:

"James 'Logan' Howlett is after a newly discovered Omega-level mutant. But if you think he's going to let Deadpool help him, you're sorely mistaken. Naturally, Deadpool vows to outmatch his newly marked enemy for the entirety of their mission. Will they find common ground with each other along the way?"

"Importantly, the book features Old Man Logan though, not Wolverine," said Shalvey. "That character has a different kind of baggage than old-school Logan, which makes him relate to Wade Wilson more than one might think. The characters have a lot in common, so having a book featuring both really makes sense, but they are clearly very different personalities, that's been a great thing to play with."

"Deadpool vs. Old Man Logan is a not so buddy-buddy buddy comedy with all the bickering, explosions and stabbing you'd expect from a comic starring Deadpool and Logan as they both race to do their version of the right thing by a young mutant," Henderson said. "Declan has written this flaming runaway train of an action script that feels like drawing a Jason Statham movie and Lee Loughridge is bringing the heat on colors. So anyone who wouldn't mind seeing our two heroes cut their way through some faceless corporate jackboots won't want to miss it because it's been crazy fun to draw."

VALIANT'S SHADOWMAN/RAE SREMMURD

Valiant Entertainment has announced an October release for Shadowman/Rae Sremmurd #1 -- a standalone comics crossover bringing the hip-hop performers behind the #1 hit "Black Beatles" into the Valiant Universe.

The book is written by Eliot Rahal, with fully painted artwork by Renato Guedes. "Comic books are a form of entertainment. I get to make all the sounds and effects in my head. It's just like you use your imagination -- you go through the pictures and the pictures are always awesome. It's like an escape from reality," said Rae Sremmurd's Slim Jxmmi. "Valiant -- they have really good storylines. The art is always on point."

Here's how the book is described:

"Before they were dominating the music charts and selling out stages worldwide, Slim Jxmmi and Swae Lee were just a pair of talented, but otherwise ordinary, brothers ... until a twist of fate delivered them fame and wealth beyond their wildest imaginations. Now, years later as hip-hop duo Rae Sremmurd, the brothers are bound for New Orleans...and an otherworldly encounter with the supernatural guardian called Shadowman, the lone line of defense between our world and the Deadside that lies beyond."
