PLANET OF THE APES: URSUS

BOOM! Studios has announced a January launch for Planet of the Apes: Ursus, a comic book series featuring the franchise's most notorious villain.

Written by David F. Walker and illustrated by Christopher Mooneyham, the series will follow the rise through the ranks of the ape who has hated -- and feared -- mankind the most, including what first brought him to the Forbidden Zone. This is the first project from BOOM! Studios in 2018 as part of their yearlong celebration of the franchise's 50th anniversary.

"I'm a lifelong Planet of the Apes fan, and when I was a kid, General Ursus terrified me," Walker said of the character who first debuted in 1970's Beneath the Planet of the Apes. "He came right out and said, 'The only good human is a dead human,' and that gave me nightmares. At the same time, I always wanted to know more about him, and as a writer, few things are more interesting than exploring what makes a villain tick."

"Ursus, to me, is just an old soldier, with no more wars to fight," Mooneyham said. "He's lost a lot, and given even more. He's a super-prejudiced gorilla who's just looking for a reason to keep on going. Personally, I think David has nailed Ursus' character with this series, and I absolutely love that I get to help tell this story."

Planet of the Apes: Ursus #1 features a main cover illustrated by Paolo Rivera, an intermix cover by Michael Allred, a subscription cover by Becca Carey and a variant cover by the Bob Larkin, presented in mock magazine and virgin cover formats. The cover by Larkin, who illustrated over a dozen painted covers for Planet of the Apes magazine, was unused during the classic magazine run and has never been published before.

FAMILY GUY: "NANNY GOATS"

Fox has released a description and image gallery from "Nanny Goats," the episode of Family Guy airing on Sunday, Oct. 8 at 9 p.m. (ET/PT).

Here's how Fox describes the episode:

"The Griffins get a nanny for the kids, courtesy of Lois' parents, which gives Peter and Lois the opportunity to reconnect."

Mae Whitman and Sanaa Lathan provide guest-voices.

BRIEFLY

POISON X: Marvel Comics has announced Poison X, a six-part crossover that begins with January's X-Men Blue Annual #1, written by Cullen Bunn, with art by Nick Edgar Salzar and a cover by Nick Bradshaw.

Here's how the story is described:

"First seen in Venomverse, the Poisons pose a threat that can only be stopped by the X-Men -- and Venom. When the X-Men drag Venom into space for help, it turns out that they're going to need to save the universe from something a little scarier than their own troubles, and Eddie Brock and his faithful Symbiote might be the only thing that can help stop it!"

TALKING: The Gifted's Stephen Moyer appeared on NBC's The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon on Wednesday. Click on the thumbnail for a larger image.
