BOOM! STUDIOS' POWER RANGERS CROSSOVER

BOOM! Studios, in partnership with Saban Brands, has announced Power Rangers: Shattered Grid. In celebration of the Power Rangers' 25th anniversary, the event begins on March 21 with Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #25, by Kyle Higgins and Daniele Di Nicuolo, featuring events so shocking that the issue will be sealed in a black polybag.

Here's how BOOM! describes the event:

Power Rangers: Shattered Grid will unfold in issues from both Mighty Morphin Power Rangers and Saban's Go Go Power Rangers and include two special one-shots. Lord Drakkon -- a twisted alternate-reality version of Tommy Oliver (AKA the Mighty Morphin Green Ranger) -- and his newly reformed deadly army will cross dimensions in order to execute on a plan that threatens the very existence of every Power Ranger ever. For the first time in comic book history, the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers will join forces with some of the most popular Power Rangers teams in the franchise to face the threat."

"Call me sentimental, but I love anniversaries. Over the last two years, I've been weaving threads in the pages of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, all leading to the 25th anniversary of the franchise," Higgins said. "Shattered Grid is a massive Power Rangers event that's both a celebration of the property and also the largest comics story I've ever tackled. Lord Drakkon's plan is so much bigger than our Rangers, our world, and even our universe. The Grid is shattering, every Power Ranger in all of existence is at risk, and it's going to take more than just the Mighty Morphin team to stand against Drakkon's armies."

?The key to incorporating Go Go Power Rangers into Shattered Grid was making the story integral to the event while never losing the personal stakes of the series -- and we are doing that in a really exciting way," said Go Go Power Rangers writer Ryan Parrott, whose series joins the event in April with issue #9. "A fan-favorite Ranger from the future is going to arrive, searching for Drakkon -- and end up dividing our team in a very personal way. Thematically, Go Go has always been about examining the past in order to understand the future -- and there's no clearer way of doing that than smashing them into one another in real time."

Polybagged editions of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #25 will be shipped with six main covers illustrated by Gomi Montes, randomly assorted in equal quantities, featuring Drakkon holding one of the Mighty Morphin Power Ranger helmets. A special chase variant by Montes will also be available and mixed in randomly within the polybagged editions.

The issue will also feature variants (shipping without polybags) by Humberto Ramos, Jordan Gibson and a stunning wraparound cover featuring every Power Ranger ever by Scott Koblish.

BOOM! STUDIOS' PERSEPHONE

BOOM! Studios has announced a May release for Persephone, Loic Locatelli-Kournwsky's original graphic novel about a young girl whose search for the truth about her identity leads her on a journey deep into the Underworld.

Persephone is Inspired by the Greek myth of Demeter and her daughter, Persephone.

"For a long time I wanted to write a story that speaks to the bond between a mother and daughter, as well as this timeless theme we call the quest for identity," said Locatelli-Kournwsky T"his is something really important to me -- It was already the main subject of my previous book about Pocahontas, and something I experience in my everyday life as an expatriate.

"I've read Greek mythology stories many times and grew fond of Persephone and Demeter, so I decided to make a book about it."

Here's how BOOM! describes the book:

"She may be the adopted daughter of the famous magician Demeter, but Persephone struggles to find her place alongside the force of nature that is her mother. Driven by recurring nightmares, she decides to explore the secrets of her birth, which everyone around her seems rather intent on keeping from her. With or without their help, Persephone will embark on an epic adventure deep into the Underworld where she'll discover who -- or what -- she is."

Locatelli-Kournwsky drew much of his art inspiration from the works of the famed Hayao Miyazaki.

"I am absolutely crazy about Whisper of the Heart and Only Yesterday," said Locatelli-Kournwsky. "The main characters from these movies were my main inspirations for Persephone. And Demeter is supposed to look like Kate Winslet from her film The Dressmaker, mixed with the Witch of the Waste from Howl's Moving Castle."
