FREEDOM FIGHTERS: THE RAY

The CW has released preview art of Freedom Fighters: The Ray, which will be available on CW Seed starting on Friday, Dec. 8.

Here's how the network describes the series:

"All his life, Ray Terrill (Russell Tovey) has fought injustice, dreaming of making a real difference like his older brother, a Marine who was killed in Afghanistan. One day, he stumbles upon a dying superhero from another Earth and is stunned to find that this superhero looks just like him -- because it is! The dying Ray Terrill of Earth-X transfers photokinetic energy to this Earth's Ray, making him a superhero -- The Ray.

"However, Ray quickly learns being a superhero isn't all hanging muggers from streetlamps and fighting giant robots. As the evil Nazi New Reichsman of Earth-X, led by Overgirl, close in, The Ray must learn to harness his powers by coming to terms with his true self, even if that means also finally coming out of the closet to his parents. The fate of Earth-X depends on it!"

Based on the characters from DC, Freedom Fighters: The Ray is from Blue Ribbon Content and Warner Bros. Animation, with executive producers Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim and Sam Register.

MARVLE RISING SET TO LAUNCH IN 2018

Marvel Entertainment has announced Marvel Rising, a new, multi-platform animation franchise starring the next generation of Marvel heroes set to launch in 2018.

The program will launch with six, four-minute digital shorts that spotlight Spider-Gwen with her new secret moniker, Ghost-Spider, and introduce audiences to the world of Marvel Rising. Following the shorts, a feature-length animated film, Marvel Rising: Secret Warriors will premiere later in the year.

"Marvel characters are so relatable because they live in our world and face the same challenges we do. So I'm very excited that our Marvel Rising team of heroes is so inclusive, reflecting characters with different backgrounds, particularly a set of strong female leads that our young audience can connect with," said Cort Lane, Marvel's senior vice president of animation and family entertainment.

Sana Amanat, Marvel's director of content & character development, said, "This project is unlike anything we've done before -- from featuring the rising and fan-favorite stars of the Marvel Universe, to a visually distinct animation style, this is a groundbreaking animated event. It's an action-packed adventure, full of comedy, heart and powerful messages for every kind of Marvel fan."

BOOM! Studios and The Jim Henson Company have announced a May release for Jim Henson's The Dark Crystal: A Discovery Adventure, an oversized hardcover that offers readers an immersive, interactive experience based on the film.

Here's how BOOM! describes the book:

"Readers are invited to join Jen and Kira on a grand adventure through the world of Thra in their journey to restore the Dark Crystal. Help them find the missing shard, evade Skeksis, and heal their land in this stunning book, gorgeously illustrated by Ann Marcellino."

"I was first introduced to The Dark Crystal via a VHS tape my mother had bought when I was young. The artistry and fantasy nature of the film really stuck with me through the years,” said Marcellino. "I am beyond excited to be working on this book; there is nothing better than working on a project for something you love, and I am really grateful for the opportunity."

Each page of JIm Henson’s The Dark Crystal: A Discovery Adventure contains detailed artwork, with lush spreads that present Jim Henson and Brian Froud's fantastical vision of Thra and the creatures that live there. The book also features bonus challenges that take viewers deeper into the enchanting landscapes, Crystal Castle, and Aughra's Observatory.

"I hope readers will enjoy looking through the details of the illustrations and maybe even come out of it with a new appreciation for the Dark Crystal world," Marcellino said.
