JAMES GUNN FIRED FROM GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY

Writer/director James Gunn has been removed from the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise by Walt Disney Pictures due to a batch of old social media dispatches.

Disney's statement:

"The offensive attitudes and statements discovered on James' Twitter feed are indefensible and inconsistent with our studio's values, and we have severed our business relationship with him," said Alan Horn, Walt Disney Studios chairman.

Disney and Marvel never announced that Gunn would direct the third installment of Guardians of the Galaxy, but Gunn declared it on social media. And after Guardians of the Galaxy 2 last summer grossed $863 million worldwide, to the original's $773 million, there was every expectation he would remain as writer/director.

"My words of nearly a decade ago were, at the time, totally failed and unfortunate efforts to be provocative," Gunn said in a statement. "I have regretted them for many years since -- not just because they were stupid, not at all funny, wildly insensitive, and certainly not provocative like I had hoped, but also because they donft reflect the person I am today or have been for some time.

"Regardless of how much time has passed, I understand and accept the business decisions taken today. Even these many years later, I take full responsibility for the way I conducted myself then. All I can do now, beyond offering my sincere and heartfelt regret, is to be the best human being I can be: accepting, understanding, committed to equality, and far more thoughtful about my public statements and my obligations to our public discourse. To everyone inside my industry and beyond, I again offer my deepest apologies. Love to all."

Tweeted Dave Bautista, who played Drax:

"James Gunn is one of the loving, caring, good-natured people I have ever met. He's gentle and kind and cares deeply for people and animals. He's made mistakes. We all have. I'm NOT OK with what's happening to him."

STAR WARS ADVENTURES: TALES FROM VADER'S CASTLE

IDW Publishing has announced Star Wars Adventures: Tales from Vader's Castle, a five-part comic-book event with new issues hitting stands every Wednesday in October.

Cavan Scott and Derek Charm team up with a roster of guest artists for this mini-series.

"Ifve always loved scary stories, and where better to tell them than the lair of Darth Vader himself?" Scott said. "Being asked to write any Star Wars character is a joy, but tackling the Dark Lord of the Sith? That's a childhood dream... or should I say, a nightmare! Vader terrified me growing up, and I can't wait to add to the legacy of Star Wars' villain, providing frightening new scares for the next generation.h

Here's how IDW describes the book:

"The weekly series features beloved characters from throughout the galaxy, including Rebels stars Hera, Kanan, and Chopper; Obi-Wan Kenobi and Count Dooku; Han Solo and Chewbacca; and the Ewoks! What frights and scares await them in Darth Vader's castle?"

Charm said, "Since this is a spookier story about these characters stranded on this nightmarish planet, it's been fun really pushing the horror aspect in the art. The shadows are heavier, the colors are harsher, and everything has this apocalyptic vibe... like things may not work out for our heroes!"

Francesco Francavilla provides cover artwork for each issue. Kelley Jones, Chris Fenoglio, Corin Howell, Robert Hack and Charles Paul Wilson III lend their distinctive styles to spooky tales over the course of the five weeks.

INVADER ZIM: ENTER THE FLORPUS

Nickelodeon allowed an exclusive first look of the upcoming Invader Zim: Enter the Florpus TV movie during a panel at Comic-Con International on Friday.

The panel reunited series creator Jhonen Vazquez with original voice cast members Richard Horvitz (Zim), Rikki Simons (GIR), Wally Wingert (Almighty Tallest Red) and Kevin McDonald (Almighty Tallest Purple), and featured Invade Zim: Enter the Florpus art director Jenny Goldberg.

"Zim's plot to return to TV has become a success with Enter the Florpus," Vasquez said. "It's exciting to give fans an early sneak peek of the movie and I hope they enjoy it and Ifm definitely Jhonen Vasquez and not just someone making up a quote for him!"

Here's how the movie is described:

"Zim discovers his almighty leaders have no intention of coming to Earth and he loses confidence in his own amazingness for the first time in his amazing life, which is the big break his human nemesis Dib has been waiting for. At some point, Gir rides a tiny donkey, and that's all anyone should really care about."

As previously announced, Horvitz and Simons return as fan-favorites Zim and Gir in Invader Zim: Enter The Florpus, alongside Andy Berman as Dib Membrane and Melissa Fahn as Gaz Membrane. Additional voice actors reprising their original series roles include: Wingert and McDonald as the Almighty Tallest Irken leaders; Rodger Bumpass as Professor Membrane, Dib and Gaz's father; Olivia d'Abo as Tak, Zim's Irken nemesis; and Paul Greenberg as Poonchy, one of Zim and Dib's human classmates.

No air date was announced.

BRIEFLY

IDW'S GO-BOTS: IDW Publishing has announce that Tom Scioli will be writing and drawing a Go-Bots! five-issue series, launching in October.

Here's how IDW describes the book:

"The existence of Go-Bots on Earth has changed humans' way of life. They chauffeur us around. They protect us from harm. They do the jobs that are too boring or dangerous for us. They fight our wars for us. They are friends for the lonely. The only thing they don't do is dream for us.... but that could change any day now. For a generation, Leader-1 and the Guardians have said that they were here to help us... but as they become more integrated into our society, the question must be asked: Are they here to replace us?"

"This is a dream project -- I'm writing, drawing, coloring, and hand-lettering this book. It's a labor of love," Scioli said. "When these characters were conceived of in the '80s, the idea of robots with human personalities was science fiction. Now, it's history. The world of living machines is here -- we're living it. The time is right for Go-Bots!"

LIFE IS STRANGE CREATORS: Titan Comics has announced its new Life is Strange comic series will be written by Emma Vieceli, with art and covers by Claudia Leonard. The series will launch with a cover by Manda Schank, with more cover artists to be revealed.

BATMAN WHO LAUGHS: Writer Scott Snyder has announced The Batman Who Laughs, a six-issue DC Comics mini-series to be drawn by Jock. Scheduled for November, the story pits Batman against the culmination of all his fears from the Dark Multiverse, an evil amalgamation of himself and his greatest nemesis, The Joker.

DC ANIMATED MOVIES: Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has announced three animated movies to following Reign of Superman in 2019: Batman: Hush, Justice League vs. The Fatal Five and Wonder Woman: Bloodlines.
