MARVEL COMICS' WINTER SOLDIER

Marvel Comics has announced a Dec. 5 return for Winter Soldier, a five-issue series from writer Kyle Higgins and artist Rod Reis.

Here's how Marvel describe the book:

"You know his name. You know the things he's done. And now that the man known as The Winter Soldier has found redemption, he's going to help others do the same...even if it's not as easy as he expects. This December, the acclaimed creative team of Kyle Higgins and Rod Reis will reunite to tell the next chapter of Bucky Barnes' story in an all-new adventure that readers won't want to miss!

"As someone with quite a bit of experience writing grown-up sidekicks, I know firsthand how important it is to define the character outside of their relationship with their mentor," said Higgins. "Since being freed from Soviet brainwashing, Bucky has done a massive amount of work to atone for his sins--becoming Captain America, spending time in the Gulag, dying to save the world... in many ways, he's found redemption. So, what's next for him? He's going to help other people do the same."

"To be able to work with a character that has such a rich legacy and striking visual identity is really exciting," Reis said. "Taking Bucky forward and building a world unique to him -- one that still respects his past -- is an artist's dream. I can't wait for people to see what we've come up with."

"As someone who grew up loving sidekicks, I've been fascinated by Bucky Barnes for as long as I've been reading comics," said Higgins. "Then, in 2005, I fell in love with the character all over again thanks to Ed Brubaker and Steve Epting's incredible Winter Soldier run. Now, along with one of my favorite artists in comics, I'm thrilled to be taking Bucky Barnes on his next journey."

X-MEN: THE EXTERMINATED

Marvel Comics has announced a Dec. 5 release for X-Men: The Exterminated #1, by writers Zac Thompson and Lonnie Nadler, artist Neil Edwards and cover artist Geoff Shaw.

Here's how Marvel describes the book:

"Cable has fallen, and the events of Extermination have left a hole in the X-Men family. What comes next??

"In the wake of Cable's death, his adopted daughter Hope Summers is attempting to deal with her loss -- but a dark and terrifying path beckons her, and the X-Men's own Jean Grey may be her only hope for survival!"

The Cable creative team Zac Thompson and Lonnie Nadler re-team for a special one-shot to say good-bye to the time-traveling, fan-favorite mutant -- featuring covers by Shaw and a special back-up story that celebrates the life of Nathan Summers, from X-Men series writer Chris Claremont!

"This issue is our chance to say a proper farewell to Cable, to honor his legacy, and to really see the immense impact the time travelling mutant had on those closest to him," said Nadler. "Most importantly, it's about how the Summers family copes with grief, and the difficulty of forging ahead. The issue is packed with fan favorite X-Men from all different eras, and we're super excited to be bringing them together, despite the somber occasion."

GIANT DAYS: WHERE WOMEN GLOW AND MEN PLUNDER

BOOM! Studios has announced a December release for Giant Days: Where Women Glow and Men Plunder #1, an all-new oversized special from creator John Allison celebrating the holidays.

Here's how BOOM! describes the book:

"You see, Ed Gemmell has a girlfriend and with Christmas looming, it's time to meet her family -- in Australia. Which is fine. Who cares that they're all Manly Men! Ed once...did something manly. That one time. It happened. It's going to be fine."

"When BOOM! Studios asked me for a holiday special this year, I knew I would have to dig deep," Allison said. "And if you dig deep, and keep digging, and pop out on the other side of the world, you end up in Australia. Which is where this year's special is set. Expect sun, surf, spiders and snags.

"I grew up with Australian soap operas like Home & Away and A Country Practice, and have always loved their comedy and music. This may not have qualified me to accurately depict their country, but it hasn't stopped me trying. I often tell anyone who listens that I would be a great showrunner on an Australian soap. So, finally, all those gold-plated ideas have a home.

"Getting to draw a double-sized issue of Giant Days myself has been the icing on the cake. I could put as many cars, trucks and vans in the script as I wanted without feeling guilty. Like a hangover, the fun comes first. The pain comes later."

Launched in 2015 under BOOM! Studios' YA-focused BOOM! Box imprint, Giant Days was originally solicited as a limited series, chronicling the college adventures of Susan, Esther, and Daisy, but strong sales and critical acclaim propelled it to become an ongoing series that has earned Eisner and Harvey award nominations. While the original webcomic from 2011 was both written and illustrated by Allison, Giant Days has featured the art of acclaimed artists including Lissa Treiman, Max Sarin, Liz Fleming, Julia Madrigal, Jenn St-Onge and more. The world of Giant Days has expanded to include young adult novels at Abrams Books and two previous holiday specials.

This holiday special marks the first time that Allison has both written and illustrated a full-length issue of Giant Days at BOOM! Studios.

"Each year, the Giant Days team finds a freakin' hilarious new way to celebrate the holidays and this will be one of the most memorable ones yet for our sweet lad Ed Gemmel," said Shannon Watters, senior editor, BOOM! Studios. "This has been an incredible year for Giant Days, as we closed in on the four-year anniversary of the comic book series, celebrated another Eisner Award nomination, and saw the girls take the leap into YA novel from Abrams."

Shudder, a subscription video on demand service for thriller, suspense and horror, has acquired all three seasons of the crime thriller Stan Lee's Lucky Man for U.S. release, produced by Carnival Films.

Based on an original idea from Stan Lee, Lucky Man is a story about luck, fate, gambling, superstition and the consequences of our actions. It follows DI Harry Clayton -- a brilliant, yet troubled cop from London's notorious Murder Squad who is also a compulsive gambler in danger of losing the thing he values most: his family. As he's approaching rock bottom, he meets the beautiful and enigmatic Eve at a casino, who gives him a mysterious bracelet that grants him with the power to control luck. But it comes at a price.

Lee said: "I've always been captivated by the subject of luck, and I thought it would be fascinating to explore a character who is bestowed an immense amount of fortune, but with a twist: the good comes with the bad. Turns out, I was right! I'm thrilled that U.S. audiences will now be lucky enough to see Stan Lee's Lucky Man."

The show features some of the UK's leading talent, including the BAFTA award-winning James Nesbitt, Amara Karan, Sienna Guillory and Stephen Hagan.

Originally produced for Sky One in the UK, the show remains one of the channel's most successful dramas to date, generating more than a million views each episode. Its success on Sky One has also been echoed globally with the show being sold to over 140 territories.

Season one will be released on Shudder in November, with season two being made available in December. Season three will launch in 2019.

Richard Fell, executive producer at Carnival Films, said: "We are thrilled that Lucky Man is going to be seen on Shudder. DI Clayton is another fantastic Stan Lee creation to add to all the others and we hope audiences in the U.S. will love him as much as our international audiences."

Stan Lee's Lucky Man is co-created by Stan Lee, Neil Biswas and POW! Entertainment. It is produced by Carnival Films, part of NBCUniversal International Studios, and the multi-award winning makers of Downton Abbey, The Last Kingdom and Jamestown, amongst many others.
