ANGEL #2 INTRODUCES FRED

BOOM! Studio has revealed cover art and story details for Angel #2, the newest issue in the series writer Bryan Edward Hill and artist Gleb Melnikov, available June 26.

Here's how BOOM! describes the issue:

"Angel #2 features the first appearance of fan favorite character Winifred 'Fred' Burkle, a math and science prodigy whose mysterious link to the demonic world connects her to the supernatural monster hunting her every step and Angel's search for his humanity. Angel, the vampire with a soul, has been walking the streets of Los Angeles for years, neither human nor vampire but surviving in the shadows of both worlds. After losing his protege to a demon, Angel has decided to find a way to finally return himself to his human form so that he can escape the guilt of his past, dark actions as the murderous Angelus.

"The search for a solution to his cursed, tormented existence has led Angel to a sleepy little town in California known as Sunnydale. But as soon as he arrives and begins stalking the shadows to find a way to restore his humanity, a monstrous new threat emerges to hunt down and torture teens all across town. Now Angel's got two missions on his hands. But will tracking down this new monster mean he loses the chance to become human forever? And what happens when he runs into the demonfs latest prey, a troubled young woman named Winifred Burkle?"

The issue has a main cover by Dan Panosian and a variant cover by Scott Buoncristiano featuring Krevlornswath of the Deathwok Clan, aka Lorne the musically inclined demon from another dimension.

IDW PUBLISHING'S MOUNTAINHEAD

IDW Publishing has announced an August debut for Mountainhead, a five-issue mini-series from writer John Lees and artist Ryan Lee, featuring colors from Doug Garbark and letters from Shawn Lee.

Here's how IDW describes the book:

"Abraham Stubbs and his father Noah roam America in a nomadic existence, convinced that they are being pursued by sinister government forces. Living off the grid, burgling houses to survive, they are unwittingly on a collision course... with the bloodied survivor of a climbing expedition gone horribly wrong. What transpires next is a psychological thriller guaranteed to quicken the pulse! 'Don't slow down. Don't get comfortable. Don't think you're safe. Be ready to run/"

"Mountainhead is a story that means a lot to me, one anchored in character and human drama, but which will also push the envelope with suspense and dread in unorthodox, surprising ways," Lees said. "Abraham Stubbs is a character who has lived in my head for some time, a kid raised from infancy to be a survivor but who could never have anticipated the challenges he's faced with here."

"Visceral, suspenseful, unnerving, and at times, absolutely bonkers -- Mountainhead has all the trademarks of quality horror. There's also a pedigree of measured story-craft amidst the havoc and darkness that John brings to this yarn," Lee said. "I want to mirror his original vision with my best work, to give readers a lasting story where the craft and passion we put into it comes through in each and every moment."

"What really grabbed me about this series, apart from its interesting setting and premise, is how it gets into the head of our protagonist as he is put into an impossible situation. Add in some unique horror elements, and Ryan Lee's vivid art, and this makes for a riveting, engaging read," said editor Bobby Curnow.
