MARVEL COMICS' IRON MAN 2020

In 1984, the Iron Man of 2020 visited from the future in Machine Man #2. Now, decades later, that future has arrived. Announced at the Marvel Comics: Next Big Thing Panel at New York Comic-Con, Iron Man 2020 kicks off in January and begins an event that will redefine one of Marvel's most iconic heroes.

Here's how Marvel describes the event:

"Recent teasers have hinted at the tragic fate of Tony Stark, and now readers will see his long-lost brother, Arno Stark, take over as Iron Man. How he tackles the responsibilities that come with being the armored Avenger will have monumental effects on the Marvel Universe. Dan Slott and Christos Gage, a superstar duo of longtime Marvel writers, have crafted an Iron Man saga for the ages, and with art by the incomparable Pete Woods, this is an event that was worth waiting decades for!"

"Like the inexorable turning of pages on a calendar, wefve been building up to the arrival of 2020 and the advent of Arno Stark as Iron Man ever since this latest run began," said editor Tom Brevoort. "Here, all of the larger themes we've been playing with will come to the fore in a big, sweeping, epic action movie that anyone can enjoy!"

The six-issue series will also continue to raise thought-provoking questions about what it means to be an artificial intelligence. As the story unfolds, expect to see Marvel robotic characters from Vision and Jocasta to Albert and Elsie-Dee in what's shaping up to be a true "Robot Revolution."

Woods' cover for the first issue features a fifth color flourescent ink treatment.

MARVEL COMICS RELAUNCHES THOR

Marvel Comics has announced Donny Cates and Nic Klein as the creators of its new Thor title beginning in January.

Here's how Marvel describes the title:

"The quest Thor is on will be the stuff of legend, filled with thunderous adventure as well as mystery as the character finds himself in unexpected new territory and facing off against an ancient threat known as The Black Winter."

"I'm incredibly excited and honored to be working on this with Donny," Klein said. "Thor is one of my favorite comic book characters so I really tried to up my game to do Thor and all of Asgard justice."

"In all my wildest dreams, I could never have imagined a world in which I was worthy of writing Thor," Cates said. "From Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, all the way to the legendary run I am so foolishly following by the great Jason Aaron, it is beyond an honor to enter the golden halls of Asgard, and to pave the path for the Thunder God himself. Know that you will have my best, true believers. For all of you. For Asgard. Forever."

MARVEL COMICS RELAUNCHES GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY

Marvel Comics has announced Al Ewing and Juann Cabal as the creative team for its relaunched Guardians of the Galaxy title in January.

Here's how Marvel describes the book:

"Ewing's spin on Marvel's flagship cosmic title is sure to be intense, putting the Guardians in the center of a new intergalactic war and going up against the latest threats facing the galaxy, including the reborn Dark Gods of Olympus.

"Once, they were a team of misfits. Now they're a family, and they've earned their peace. But the universe is not a peaceful place -- and it's only getting worse. The Great Empires are in turmoil. The rule of law is dead. And amidst the chaos, the Gods of Olympus have returned -- harbingers of a new age of war, reborn to burn their mark on the stars themselves. Someone has to guard the galaxy - but who will accept the mission? And will they survive it?"

"Guardians of the Galaxy is a high-octane spy-fi action-adventure set against an evolving backdrop of interstellar politics, intrigue and suspense," Ewing said. "War is coming -- and if the Guardians can't stop it, they're going to be right in the middle..."

BOOM! STUDIOS' ALIENATED

BOOM! Studios has announced a February launch for Alienated, a new series from writer Simon Spurrier and artist Chris Wildgoose.

Here's how BOOM! describes the book:

"Three teenagers, each an outcast in their own way, stumble upon an unearthly entity as it's born. As they bond over this shared secret and the creature's incredible abilities, it becomes clear to the teenagers that their cute little pet is a predator in the making -- and it's in need of prey. Guided by the best intentions at first, the teens' decisions soon become corrupted by adolescent desires, small-town jealousies, and internal rivalries, sending them into a catastrophic spiral of their own making."

"I always wondered what would've happened if E.T. had been befriended by someone a little less... nice," Spurrier said. "Someone with issues. Someone with rage and uncertainty and insecurity and big ideas, waiting to be tested. A teenager, basically. Or better yet, three of them. Then again, I always wondered what would've happened if E.T. himself had been a bit more, y'know, alien. As in: ineffably strange. And terrifying.

"Alienated answers both questions. It's my take on the classic coming-of-age high school tale, by which I mean it's got as much vicious toxicity about it as it has awkwardness and heart. Some kids find pirate treasure, some kids find a dead body on the train tracks; these kids find an nth-dimensional psychic entity which hungers for brainwaves. Mischief and murder ensues.h

Said Wildgoose: "This is a dream team project for me. I've been hoping I would have the chance to work with Simon Spurrier and Eric Harburn for years, and finally our paths have aligned. I am so looking forward to seeing what people think of Alienated.

"We have some fresh approaches to tell the story of these three outcast teenagers who are pulled together by the unpredictable power of an alien force. I think it's a story that will pull on your heartstrings and make you laugh, with a nice bit of cosmic horror thrown in for good measure -- all wrapped in a high school drama. It's quite the mix!"

BRIEFLY

NEW DAY CREATORS: BOOM! Studios, in partnership with WWE, surprised fans at New York Comic Con with a video from WWE Superstars The New Day announcing writers Evan Narcisse and Austin Walker and artist Daniel Bayliss as the creative team for new graphic novel, WWE: The New Day, starring WWE Champion Kofi Kingston and WWE wrestlers Big E and Xavier Woods of The New Day.

"I grew up loving and watching the Superstars of yesteryear but it wasn't until I first saw The New Day that I felt like I finally got the sports entertainment that I'd been waiting for my whole life," Narcisse said. "The wit, charisma, and energy that Kofi, Xavier, and Big E show in the ring is incredibly infectious and I can't wait to translate all that to the medium of comics.".

JOKER RULES: Warner Bros.' Joker topped the domestic box office on Friday with an estimated $39.9 million.

The movie should top 2018's Venom ($80.2 million) for the October opening record.
