WAID, ADAMS ON FANTASTIC FOUR: ANTHESIS

Marvel Comics has announced an August launch for Fantastic Four: Antithesis, from writer Mark Waid and artist Neal Adams.

"Working with Neal Adams has been a dream of mine since I was a kid. To share the page with a man of his talent is an honor," Waid said. "The story begins with the Fantastic Four struggling to prevent an extinction event on Earth and just goes more cosmic from there. We all know of Galactus, but until now, no one has met his Antithesis."

Here's how the series is described:

"Who or what is the Antithesis, and will the combined might of the Fantastic Four, the Silver Surfer, and Galactus himself be enough to defeat it?"

Adams said, "I have always had the sense of missing the chance to draw the Fantastic Four. It was a quiet sense, since Ifve had every opportunity to do my favorites. More, I felt Kirby and Buscema had done it all, hadnft theyc?

"When Marvel's Tom Brevoort asked if I'd like to do the Fantastic Four, I knew I had to ask for Galactus and the Silver Surfer as well. I am humbled and thankful to Tom for the opportunity."

Inks are provided by Mark Farmer and colors by Laura Martin.

YEN PRESS' STAR WAS MANGA

Yen Press, in collaboration with Lucasfilm, has announced two new Star Wars sereis, Star Wars Leia, Princess of Alderaan and Star Wars Rebels. Both ongoing series will be available in print and digital.

Star Wars Leia, Princess of Alderaan is an adaptation of the young adult Star Wars novel, Leia, Princess of Alderaan, by Claudia Gray. Grey is joined on the comic by artist Haruichi Furudate.

Here's how the book is described:

"The never-before-told story of how young Leia Organa comes to join the rebellion against the evil Empire. A young Princess Leia spends her days learning the ways of politics, aiding those in need and preparing for the traditional ceremony in which she declares her intention to one day rule Alderaan. But as Leia prepares herself to be named the heir of the throne, she becomes aware of the growing distance between her and her parents, who behind closed doors are leaders of the newly-formed Rebellion. Upon learning her parents' secrets, Leia must now make a choice between her responsibility to the people of Alderaan and her responsibility to save a galaxy crushed by the rule of the Empire."

Star Wars Rebels, with story and art by Akira Aoki, is an adaptation of the Disney XD animated series.

Here's how the book is described:

"Set during an era when the Galactic Empire is hunting down the last of the Jedi, a fledgling rebellion against the Empire begins to take form. Star Wars Rebels takes place in the area surrounding the planet Lothal, where the Galactic Empire battles against Ezra, a teenage con artist with latent Force abilities, Kanan, one of the last surviving members of the Jedi Order, and the rest of the ragtag rebels on board the starship Ghost."

POWER RANGERS: DRAKKON NEW DAWN

BOOM! Studios has announced an August launch for the three-issue limited series Power Rangers: Drakkon New Dawn, from writer Anthony Burch and artist Simone Ragazzoni.

Here's how BOOM! describes the series:

"After the shocking events of Power Rangers: Ranger Slayer #1, Kimberly is determined to purge the terrifying hold that Drakkon has had over her world, starting with Deadlock; the prison tower where Drakkon held all those who opposed him. But even the Ranger Slayer has no clue of the true power kept in Deadlock -- and what unlocking the doors will set into motion. As Kimberly investigates the worst of Drakkon's secrets, she sets in motion Drakkonfs final plan -- one that will pit her against a fan-favorite Power Rangers villain like you've never seen them before!"

"I'm extremely excited to spend time in the Power Rangers universe, especially in the Coinless timeline of Lord Drakkon," Burch said. "I hope fans are excited about this slightly darker, more apocalyptic tale starring some of our favorite new characters...and maybe a few returning old ones."

"When I was a child, watching Power Rangers was the highlight of every Sunday morning so being the one who will bring them to life in this series is a huge honor," Ragazzoni said. "Action, fights, monsters, heroes in costumes, and an extremely talented team: what else could I ask for?"

"Kimberly must return home to face the fallout from her Ranger Slayer days but even she couldnft have been prepared for the consequences of digging into Drakkon's darkest secrets," said edtior Dafna Pleban. "In Drakkon New Dawn, Anthony and Simone place our heroine in a situation where she'll have to face enemies new and old, as well as a heartbreaking choice when confronted with the unthinkable!"

The variant cover to #1 is by Goni Montes.
