DC COMICS' THE NEXT BATMAN

John Ridley's take on Tim Fox as The Next Batman has been a hit, according to DC Comics, receiving second printings for the first two issues of Future State: The Next Batman.

In addition to the upcoming short story in Batman: Black and White #3 (on sale Feb. 23), DC and Ridley have more in store to expand the growing legacy of the new Dark Knight. The Next Batman: Second Son is a new mini-series, launching weekly digital chapters beginning Feb. 23. The first three digital chapters will be collected into the debut print issue, available at comics stores on April 6.

Here's how DC describes the book:

"Now that the world knows Tim Fox is behind the mask fighting against The Magistrate in Gotham City, what's the truth behind his origin and his connection to the current DC Universe? Featuring art by Tony Akins, Travel Foreman and Mark Morales, this mini-series answers the questions behind Tim's estrangement from Lucius Fox and the rest of the Fox family and his evolution from man of mystery to Gotham's newest guardian.

On June 29, DC will release John Ridley Deluxe Edition. This 128-page hardcover collection is led by an original story by Ridley, with art by Dustin Nguyen, and collects Future State: The Next Batman issues #1-4, in addition to stories from Batman: Black and White and "Family Ties," from Batman: The Joker War Zone #1.

MARVEL'S NEW CHAMPIONS CREATORS

Marvel Comics has announced a new creative team for Champions, writer Danny Lore and artist Luciano Vecchio, who take over with #6 in April.

Here's how Marvel describes "Killer App," their first storyline.

"The Champions tried fighting fair. Now it¡¯s time to fight dirty. A sinister corporation is cheating the system to try to keep Kamala's Law on the books, so the Champions infiltrate the company to take it down from the inside. But the company¡¯s wildly popular self-help app is already turning public perception against teen super heroes. Can the Champions wage war on a trend? And how dirty will their hands get before it's over?"

"I think it's very easy today for young people to feel either helpless or overwhelmed with the weight of the world and its ills on their shoulders. With rhetoric constantly showing up about how the youth will save the world, but not necessarily with the support system to assist, it's important that Champions exists as a story in which they DO have the power," Lore said. "Where even if the teens only have each other, they can change the world, the rest of us grown folk be damned."

"Personally this is the perfect follow up to my run as artist on Ironheart, which has been super significant to me, and I¡¯m so excited to reconnect with Riri and also get to draw Ms. Marvel, Miles and the rest of the kids and get my visual brand on them individually and as a cohesive team," Vecchio said. "Young legacy heroes are my favorite category in the superhero genre because they redefine and update the archetypes we love in a constantly evolving world that challenges the kind of stories we tell. Champions in particular has been such a special read in this sense from its start and I'm honored to be part of it."

Toni Infante provides the cover to Champions #6.

SPIDER-WOMAN'S NEW OLD LOOK

Marvel Comics' Spider-Woman returns to her original costume in Spider-Woman #11 in April, from writer Karla Pacheco and artist Pere Perez.

Here's what Pacheco said about the new arc:

"We've taken Jessica Drew through a gut-wrenching, action-packed wringer these past 10 issues, and we aren¡¯t letting up as we head into our next adventure! With the mysteries of Wundagore behind her, Jess is finally feeling like herself again, and longing to get back to a 'normal' life. But what exactly is normal for Spider-Woman?

"In Issue 11 we see Jess setting aside her latest suit -- for now -- and gearing up once again in the iconic red and yellow costume -- albeit with a few new touches and some surprises -- courtesy of the always inventive Pere Perez. She's safely home and ready to resume her life with Gerry and Roger...but of course nothing is that simple for the one and only Spider-Woman. We¡¯re launching Jess directly into another over-the-top story, featuring incredible new villains, unbelievable action from Pere, and of course, me ripping everyone's hearts again as I chortle with evil glee.

"Also there will be monster trucks."

The cover to Spider-Woman #11 is by Junggeun Yoon.
