MARVEL COMICS' THE LAST ANNIHILATION

Marvel Comics has announced The Last Annihilation, a new storyline running through its cosmic titles.

The event will start with Guardians of the Galaxy #16 on July 21 and S.W.O.R.D. #7 on July 28.

Here's how Marvel describes those issue:

"Guardians of the Galaxy #16 will see the entire galaxy under attack, the likes of which haven't been seen since Annihilus first waged war. Someone out there has awakened with a new vision for the universe and they have the army to make it a reality. When five different planets fall under siege, will it be too much even for the new Guardians of the Galaxy to handle?

"S.W.O.R.D. #7 will take place immediately following the Hellfire Gala. The party is over...but not all the guests have gone home. Victor Von Doom is staying for dinner. Be there as he catches up with an old friend... just as The Last Annihilation hits!"

"Guardians and S.W.O.R.D. have been building their own unique gravity for a while now, and in space, when two objects have gravity, there's a pretty good chance they'll crash into each other - or get sucked into the orbit of something even bigger," writer Al Ewing said. "Marvel Space these days is a fragile coalition of worlds that chose peace over war, a little bubble of hope in a cruel void - but there's an enemy nobody ever suspected readying an attack that'll either cement all those frail alliances or tear them to pieces."

Guardians #16 is drawn by Juan Frigeri, with a cover by Brett Booth. S.W.O.R.D. #6 is drawn and with a cover by Velerio Schiti.

MARVEL COMICS' ALIENS: AFTERMATH

Marvel Comics has announced a July 14 release for Aliens: Aftermath #1, a one-shot honoring the 35th anniversary of the property.

The double-sized issue is written by Benjamin Percy, with art by Dave Wachter.

Here's how Marvel describes the issue:

"It's been 35 years since the tragedy of the Hadley's Hope colony, but what happened during that ill-fated venture has been shrouded in mystery. A renegade crew of investigative journalists are heading towards the moon that Weyland-Yutani has wiped from all records, and they'll bring back the truth even if it kills them ... and what remains in that bombed-out site will try to do just that."

"When I was a kid, I had a door-length poster of a xenomorph crashing through the wood, tearing off the hinges, creeping forward with a drippy fanged smile. This is the image I would drift away to every night, which no doubt influenced my imaginative hard-wiring, along with the films and comics that I watched and read over and over and over," Perce said.

"To this day, I can't grip a knife without wanting to lay my hand on a table and tick-tick-tick the point between my splayed fingers -- I can't play a game of ping-pong or Clue without yelling, 'Game over, man' -- I can't scratch an orange tabby without whispering, 'You are my lucky star....lucky, lucky, lucky, lucky, lucky...' I've been in love with these stories most of my life, and it's truly an honor and a delight to celebrate the 35th anniversary of Aliens with a script inked in acid blood."

Phil Noto provides the cover.
