NICK SPENCER ENDS SPIDER-MAN RUN

Marvel Comics has announcd that writer Nick Spencer will close out his run on Amazing Spider-Man in September with #74, an 80-page issue.

"The last three years of Amazing Spider-Man have been Nick Spencer's love letter to his favorite character and comic," editor Nick Lowe said. "He may be the biggest Spidey fan ever as evidenced from the fact that he read every Spider-Man comic in preparation for his landmark run.

"From #1 all the way through #74, Nick -- along with Ryan Ottley, Humberto Ramos, Patrick Gleason, Mark Bagley and more -- has gone huge with more villains, more supporting characters, and more punishment for Peter Parker. From 'Hunted' to 'Sins Rising' to 'Last Remains' to 'King's Ransom' to 'Sinister War,' and now to the ultra-sized finale 'What Cost Victory,' Nick will bring his web-slinging rollercoaster ride back into the station in a way you'll never forget!."

Shown above is Patrick Gleason's cover to #74, in stores on Sept. 22.

BOOM!'S MAW: BOOM! Studios has announced a September launch for Maw, a five-issue horror series by writer Jude Ellison S. Doyle and artist A.L. Kaplan, that explores the anger of those trapped by society's expectations and the monsters born from that collective rage

Here's how BOOM! describes the title:

"Dragged by her sister Wendy to a feminist retreat on the remote island of Angitia, Marion Angela Weber hopes to gain some perspective and empowerment, that isn't at the bottom of a bottle. But everything is horribly derailed after an assault on their first night there.

"The violent encounter awakens something in Marion she never imagined, triggering warped mutations in her body, and bringing forth a hunger she can't bring herself to name. When the townsfolk react with suspicion and violence, what unforgivable act will transform Marion into the very monster they've made her out to be?"

"MAW might be the most fun I've ever had as a writer," said Doyle. It's a love letter to all the ways horror can tell powerful, subversive and transformative stories about gender, and it's a big, messy chunk of my heart that I somehow got paid to throw on a page. It's been an honor to work with BOOM! and A.L. Kaplan on this, and I can't wait to share it with you. MAW transformed me."

MAW #1 features main cover art by Ariela Kristantina and variants by Megan Hutchison-Cates and Abigail Jill Harding.
