DC COMICS' SUPERMAN '78

Beginning this fall, decades after Richard Donner's and Christopher Reeve's Superman: The Movie introduced generations of fans to a silver screen version of DC's Man of Steel, DC returns to the property to tell new stories set within this world with in Superman '78 by writer Rob Venditti and artist Wilfredo Torres .

"There's no fictional character that I love more than Superman," Torres, said. "And of all the many interpretations of the big guy in comics, animation, TV and film, the Christopher Reeve/Richard Donner version is the one I love the most. Working on this project is very literally a childhood dream come true."

"My earliest memory interacting with the DC universe is seeing Christopher Reeve fly across the screen," Venditti said. "While others might say that the John Byrne era is their Superman, or the Dan Jurgens era is their Superman, Reeve is mine. Superman is and has always been my favorite superhero, but Superman '78 is a project I never dreamed of working on because it didn't seem possible it could ever exist. This is the gig of a lifetime."

In this first look, Superman '78 #1 begins on Tuesday, August 24 with all the classic elements of Superman: The Movie on full display.

Here's how DC describes the book:

"In Superman '78, bystanders are surprised and delighted by Superman's abilities, and Lois Lane doesn't (yet!) know that Clark Kent is secretly Superman. The sheer thrill of seeing a man fly, leap, or stop a bullet will be reflected in this environment where Superman has just been introduced! Inspired by Donner's classic, timeless style of superhero storytelling, in Superman '78 Venditti and Torres will remind fans that a man can truly fly."

Superman '78 #1 covers are by Torres and Evan "Doc" Shaner.

Here's how DC describes the second issue, with a variant cover by Bryan Hitch, arriving on Sept. 28:

"After a battle with a rampaging robot, Superman enlists an unlikely ally to crack the code behind who sent it. He needs an intelligent technological genius, and that can only mean one person: Lex Luthor!"

Here's how DC describes Superman '78 #3, with covers by Amy Reeder and Lee Weeks, arriving on Oct. 28:

"In order to save Metropolis, Superman must surrender to Brainiac or watch his city burn to the ground! After being taken aboard Brainiac's ship, Superman finds a shocking piece of his past that changes his entire future! Meanwhile, Lois Lane gets a cryptic message from a mysterious source claiming to have a way to save the Man of Steel!"

Superman '78 #4, with covers by Brad Walker, Nathan Fairbairn and Chris Samnee, arrives in shops on Nov. 23

TITAN COMICS' THE JUNCTION

Titan Comics has announced an April 2022 release for The Junction, the debut graphic novel by Norm Konyu.

Here's how Titan describes the book:

"When a missing child, Lucas Jones, reappears on his Uncle's doorstep in his hometown of Medford after an absence of 12 years, the brief moment of joy is clouded by mystery. Where has he been? Where is his father who disappeared at the same time? And how is it possible that Lucas is still 11 years old?€

"As Lucas is uncommunicative, it is left to Detective Sergeant David King and child psychologist Jean Symonds to attempt to find some answers from the few belongings Lucas returned with; little more than four Polaroids and a personal journal which speaks of his time in a place called The Junction.€

"The story unravels through interviews, medical and police reports, and, ultimately, through visits to The Junction via the pages of Lucas¡¯s diary, jumping back and forth in time, revealing pieces of the puzzle in a mystery that keeps the reader guessing right up until the end."

"I'm so excited that Titan Comics has given me the opportunity to share the world of The Junction, a project I began way back in 2012 with some notes scrawled on scrap paper," Konyu said. "I had to rediscover my personal style to tell the tale, stitching together memories of growing up in small town Canada with dream imagery. It's been a challenging project, but a deeply personal one that I hope resonates with readers."

BRIEFLY

MARVEL VOICES: Marvel Comics has released images and details from Marvel's Voices: identity, a one-shot celebrating Asian super-heroes on August 25.

Here's how Marvel describes the book:

"Marvel's Voices: Identity #1will be a thrilling collection of uplifting adventures starring Shang-Chi, Jubilee, Silk, Jimmy Woo, Ms. Marvel, Wave, Silhouette, Armor, and Silver Samurai."

Covers will be by Peach Momoko, InHyuk Lee and Philip Tan.

"It;s unreal to me that one of Marvel's first Asian super heroes, Jimmy Woo, was first introduced in 1956. He predates the Fantastic Four, Spider-Man, and the X-Men," editor Darren Shan said. "It just goes to show that Asians have been an integral part of Marvel's history, both on the page and behind it. So I'm incredibly excited to celebrate that with all these amazing creators, new and established, featuring some of Marvel's greatest -- and dare I say it, best -- super heroes."

VERY BRIEFLY: Luke Wilson, from DC's Stargirl, will be a guest on CBS' The Talk on Thursday, August 5. Stargirl returns to The CW on Tuesday, August 10.
