BOOM! STUDIOS' ANGEL

BOOM! Studios has announced a January launch fo Angel, an eight-issue book series, written by Christopher Cantwell and illustrated by Daniel Bayliss.

Here's how the book is described:

"Welcome to Detective TV, starring Angel and his co-star, Cordelia! But wait, Angel isn't just a celebrity? Nope, he leads a double life ... as a real monster hunter for Angel Investigations!

"Sometimes, though, this double life can get his friends into trouble, and as Wesley recovers from a horrific curse, Angel stumbles into a series of supernatural events which lead to him getting sucked into an unexpected and mysterious world. He soon faces a terrifying enemy, who sees him as a threat .."

Cantwell is also a co-creator, executive producer, and showrunner of AMC's Halt and Catch Fire and additionally served as an executive producer on the first season of the upcoming TV adaptation of Brian K. Vaughan and Cliff Chiang's Paper Girls, coming soon to Amazon Prime.

"I love writing character ensemble stories, stories about seemingly random individuals who suddenly find themselves trapped in the orbits of others. Angel has one of the best ensembles to ever grace the TV screen, and theirs is a story about a family of choice," Cantwell said. "When BOOM! approached me, I leaped at the chance to honor and celebrate the original series in a fresh way, pulling on some loose threads and weaving new ones. It takes all the characters and plays 52 card pick-up with them, reshuffling their roles and identities into a literal alternate universe that looks and feels like Angel, but is also something else entirely."

"I love what BOOM! Studios has done with this series and especially what our incredible writer Chris Cantwell is doing with this story! Here you will see all of our favorite characters in a slightly different reality and yet they all maintain their core and humor in a story that is highly entertaining and with unexpected turns," Bayliss said. "This has given me the opportunity as an artist to represent great action scenes, creepy creatures and demons, but what I love the most is that Chris also goes a little deeper with the characters and the interactions between them, with more personal situations with which we can relate more closely with the characters. For me, these are the heart and soul of the series, and they have been my favorite scenes when putting ink on the page."

Angel #1 features main cover art by Nimit Malavia and variant cover art by fan favorite artists InHyuk Lee and Jahoy Lindsay.

"Angel has always been a contradiction of good vs. evil, spotlight vs. shadows, and tortured past vs. redemptive future, which is what makes Chris and Daniel's take on this version of the iconic vampire so delightful as they imagine a universe where Angel's identities and worlds collide," said Sierra Hahn, executive editor, BOOM! Studios. "It's all magical hijinks, mysterious Big Bads, and tons of secrets in this fresh new take on the characters you know and love from Angel."

"DEADSIDE WAR" IN SHADOWMAN

Valiant Entertainment has announced that it will unleash part one of "Deadside War"€in Shadowman #5, a horror storyline that will unfold within the pages of Shadowman for four issues and feature the return of€Punk Mambo.

Here's how Valiant describes the story:

Jack Boniface is Shadowman, the brave and powerful supernatural protector who keeps humanity safe from the deadly creatures that dwell within the dimension known as the Deadside. When more and more of these nightmarish€creatures start clawing into the world of the living, Jack won't be able to stand alone against the global threat."

"In the new 'Deadside War'€story in Shadowman, we¡¯re seeing Blights -- tears in the fabric of reality between our world and the Deadside -- opening with increased frequency and increased supernatural mayhem," said writer Cullen Bunn. "It will also awaken some old adversaries who might be too much even for the combined might of our heroes. All this brings us to the titular war, which could rip the entirety of the Valiant Universe apart."

The artist is Pedro Andreo.

"I wanted to capture the horror, stress, and oppression€that an actual zombie attack would have in a city that wasn't expecting it," Andreo said. "I couldn't decide on whether I wanted slow zombies or running zombies so I went with a little bit of both. Both types of zombies! Could you imagine? That would be a nightmare."

In addition to bringing the horror to new heights, Andreo also enjoyed the opportunity to blend in energetic action sequences.

"Cullen's script was specific about everything that took place in these panels, but it let me go wild on the shots, angles, and movement, so I went full anime on them. I had a lot of fun doing the kinetic effects and such crazy panels full of detail, gore and action."

Every new chapter of "Deadside War" will feature a primary cover by Jon Davis-Hunt and a new Horror Movie Homage variant cover in addition to pre-order covers from a variety of artists, including Adam Pollina for #5.

BRIEFLY

NEW DRESDEN FILES: Dynamite Entertainment has announced a February release for Dresden Files: Bigfoot, a 120-page graphic novel, retailing for $24.99.

Creator Jim Butcher returns for a sixth outing, co-written by Mark Powers. They're joined by returning artist Joe Cooper and cover artist of the prose novel series, Chris McGrath.

Here's how the book is described:

"Harry Dresden finds himself now working for the one and only Bigfoot. Three hard-to-find short stories are reimagined and interwoven with additional wholly new material to come together into a thrilling new tale."

"Bigfoot hasn't gotten nearly enough attention since we stopped trying to find him every season on Animal Planet, and I feel that needs correcting post haste," Butcher said. "As I've often said before, I mostly see the Dresden Files in my head as drawn animation, and I deeply enjoy seeing my often-ridiculous imagination coalesce into imagery that other people can enjoy too!"

NEW LEGENDS: Here's how The CW describes "Speakeasy Does It," the episode of DC's Legends of Tomorrow airing on Wednesday, Nov. 3:

"When the Legends arrive in Chicago, they come across a speakeasy that caters to a diverse crowd, however their presence results in upsetting a mob who in turn burn down the club. Wanting to make things right, Zari (Tala Ashe) demands they help to fix the club by throwing a party, with a special performance by The Bullet Blondes, to help raise money to rebuild it. Coincidentally, Astra (Olivia Swann), Spooner (Lisseth Chavez) and Gideon (Amy Pemberton) are also in Chicago and feel compelled to help a female musician sever ties to the mob, while also trying to reach the Legends. Meanwhile, Gary (Adam Tsekham) points out something that Nate (Nick Zano) never realized about his relationship track record."

Kristin Windell directed the episode, written by Keto Shimizu and Emily Cheever.

NEW BATWOMAN: Here's how The CW describes "AntiFreeze," the episode of Batwoman, airing on Wednesday, Nov. 3:

"When Ryan (Javicia Leslie) makes Gotham's '30 Under 30' list, Luke (Camrus Johnson) worries about how Marquis' (Nick Creegan) involvement in Ryan's rising popularity as Wayne Enterprises, acting CEO will land with Jada (Robin Givens). Mary (Nicole Kang) returns from a late night out not feeling quite herself, while Alice's (Rachel Skarsten) hallucinations grow stronger. And when Sophie's (Meagan Tandy) sister, Jordan (guest-star Keeya King), goes missing, she and the Bat Team quickly realize that Freeze's missing weapon hasn't been fully contained."

Holly Dale directed the episode written by Daniel Thomsen
