MARVEL MOVIE UPDATE

GIVE'EM A CLICK

The spotlight at Comic-Con International in San Diego will fall on Marvel movies on Saturday. The Continuum has learned that The Hulk director Ang Lee and Daredevil star Ben Affleck are last-minute guests, and that director Bryan Singer will be showing footage from the X-Men sequel.

Lee will be part of a Universal presentation at 4 p.m. (PT). It's possible, although unconfirmed, that star Eric Bana will also appear.

Colin Farrell, who plays Bullseye in Daredevil and has been rumored to be one of the leads in the upcoming Batman vs. Superman, was originally scheduled to appear, but had to cancel because of an illness in his family.

Affleck and Daredevil director Mark Steven Johnson will appear, though.

The X-Men sequel will also be part of the Fox presentation. Singer is coming from Vancouver, where production is underway on X2. The Continuum has learned that he will be showing a five-minute clip from the film in which the X-Mansion is under attack and several mutants are seen.

J.J. ABRAMS TALKS SUPERMAN MOVIE, ALIAS COMICS

J.J. Abrams, who has been attached as writer for a Superman movie, told The Continuum that the film's future might be cleared up soon.

Warner Bros. recently announced a Batman vs. Superman movie. Superman, which McG is attached to direct, and Batman: Year One remain in development.

"It's a very complicated thing right now," Abrams told The Continuum after the panel for his television series, Alias, at Comic-Con International in San Diego on Friday. "In the next couple of weeks, I think it will be much clearer."

During the Alias panel, Abrams said that Arcade Comics and Rob Liefeld will be producing an Alias comic book starting in December. Abrams will likely write the book.

He also noted that there will be two 12-inch dolls from the show and a two-pack of six-inch action figures, as well as a trading card set from InkWorks.

"Whatever merchandise we do, it's important it's up to the quality we want," Abrams said.

Of Alias star Jennifer Garner, who is also playing Elektra in Daredevil, Abrams said: "She is an extremely hard worker."

MUTANT X UPDATE

Victoria Pratt, who plays Shalimar Fox in Mutant X, told The Continuum that the show will have a more real feel in its second season.

"We're getting out in the world more," she said just prior to a Mutant X/Andromeda panel at Comic-Con International in San Diego. "We're out on location a lot more."

Pratt said production has reached the eighth episode of the second season, which launches in syndication the first week in October.

After the panel, Tribune Entertainment's Seth Howard told The Continuum that Howard Chaykin has left the show, citing "creative differences." Chaykin wrote two episodes for the second season, including the opener, "Past as Prologue."

Jonathan Hackett is Mutant X's new producer, and Peter Mohan is the new head writer.

COMIC-CON INTERNATIONAL: DARK HORSE/STAR WARS PANEL

Dark Horse Comics announced on Friday at Comic-Con International in San Diego that it will be dealing with events ahead of Episode II in the movie franchise.

After a story summit with LucasFilm netted approval, Dark Horse's newly renamed Star Wars: Republic will show what happened during the Clone Wars beginning with #49 in December.

"So we're actually going to be ahead of where the movies are," Dark Horse's Randy Stradley said.

The title change from Star Wars to Star Wars: Republic begins with #46. The new title, Star Wars: Empire, will deal with events during the later episodes of the movie franchise.

It was also announced that Judd Winick will be writing a Han Solo/Princess Leia story. Plans are for the title - which is yet untitled and does not have an artist - to be released next year.

The story will be set between Star Wars and The Empire Strikes Back and will explain the romantic spark between Han and Leia. The story involves Han and Leia getting caught in a storm on Hoth and having to spend the night together.

"It's going to be a lot of fun," Winick said. "I'm glad to finally be doing a Star Wars story."
