CHRIS GIARUSSO'S IMAGE ANNIVERSARY COVERS

Image Comics has announced that, in commemoration of Image's 20th anniversary, artist and G-Man creator Chris Giarusso will re-create 12 classic first-issue covers.

First to get the treatment is Youngblood, the very first Image title. The cover will ship in limited quantity as a variant for Youngblood #71, the relaunch of the Rob Liefeld Extreme Studios title by John McLaughlin, John Malin and Liefeld. Youngblood #71 will be in stores on May 23.

A Walking Dead cover was revealed at a recent convention as part of an April Fool's prnak. It will also be part of the anniversary covers.

"Twenty years ago, I was eagerly anticipating the launch of Image Comics," Giarusso said. "Maybe it was partially due to my upcoming high school graduation, but it felt like the whole world was changing. I vividly recall the excitement of seeing the Image books on the shelf for the first time. It was a new era, and these cover images were instantly iconic.

"The opportunity to pay tribute to these classic Image covers is an honor and a privilege, and I couldn't be more excited about my role and participation in Image's 20th anniversary celebration."

BRIEFLY

* DC Comics has announced a six-issue He-Man and The Masters of the Universe mini-series to launch in July. The book will be written by James Robinson, with art by Phillip Tan and Ruy Jose.

Here's how DC describes the book:

"Robinson reintroduces the Masters of the Universe to comic readers with Skeletor having won a major victory and rewriting the world of Eternia, where he now rules from Castle Grayskull and the Masters have no memory of their former glory. Adam is a simple woodsman haunted by dreams of a heroic warrior, wielding a powerful sword in battle. He is found by a mysterious sorceress who tells him his dreams are of the way the world should be, that he is Eternia's champion He-Man. Adam sets off on a quest to regain his power and reawaken the Masters of the Universe."

* Shout! Factory has announced a July 10 release for Steve Niles' Remains -- last winter's Chiller TV movie -- on DVD and Blu-Ray. The film is based on the IDW Publishing graphic novel of the same name.

* Aspen Comics has unveiled its C2E2 convention exclusive cover to Fathom: Kiani Vol. 2 #1. Aspen will also offer a print of the cover -- by Michael Turner and limited to 500 copies -- along with two other new art prints. The convention is April 13-15 in Chicago.
