BLACK PANTHER VS. DEADPOOL

Marvel Comics has announced an Oct. 3 launch for Black Panther vs. Deadpool, a five-issue series written by Daniel Kibblesmith, with art by Ricardo Lopez and a #1 cover by Ryan Benjamin.

Here's how Marvel describes the book:

"For a reason he'd rather not disclose (because, well, it makes him look bad!) Deadpool needs a piece of Vibranium...and the only way to get Vibranium is to go through the Black Panther himself! But Deadpool soon learns that his unconventional methods don't exactly work against the king of the most technologically advanced country on the planet."

"Featuring a brawl you can only get in comics -- for now anyway -- Black Panther vs. Deadpol is the best of both worlds, equal parts Black Panther/Wakanda and Deadpool/Crazytown," said editor Wil Moss. "In bouncing these two characters off each other -- and sometimes through each other -- Daniel and Ricardo have found some really fascinating insights into what makes them tick as individuals."

WHISPERING DARK: Dark Horse Comics has announced an Oct. 24 launch for The Whispering Dark, a four-issue series from writer Christofer Emgard and artist Tomas Aira.

Here's how Dark Horse describes the book:

"The Whispering Dark follows an Army pilot confronting a supernatural horror in this thriller in the tradition of Lovecraft's At the Mountains of Madness and Coppola's Apocalypse Now! Hannah Vance believed her faith in God could survive anything. But when her helicopter is shot down behind enemy lines, she will fight and kill on an ever more savage battlefield, desperate for a way home. On the horizon, an evil waits for her -- and freedom, of a sort."

ASCENDER IN 2019: Image Comics has announced a 2019 launch for Ascender, from the Descender creative team of Jeff Lemire and Dustin Nguyen.

Here's how Image describes the book:

"Set ten years after the conclusion of Descender, in Ascender the machines have gone away, and in their absence magic has reclaimed the universe. Now one girl must embark on an epic quest to find robotkind and its fabled boy messiah, TIM-21, before it's too late..."

"Dustin and I love the world of Descender and we're re-energized by this new direction, which has opened all sorts of new storytelling possibilities for us," said Lemire. "Ascender will feel like a continuation of the Descender saga and like a brand new book all in one."

VERY BRIEFLY: Ant-Man and The Wasp opened with $11.5 million from its Thursday night screenings.
