BOOM!'S DUNE: HOUSE HARKONNEN

BOOM! Studios has announced a January launch for Dune: House Harkonnen, a 12-issue series adapting for the first time from Frank Herbert's Dune by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson and artist Michael Shelfer.

Here's how BOOM! describes the title:

"Fans will gain insight into how the early years of iconic figures Gurney Halleck, Lady Jessica, and Liet Kynes had their future shaped by the complex and brutal machinations of House Harkonnen! What difficult choices will tear Leto Atreides apart as Baron Harkonnen plots against not just House Atreides, but the Bene Gesserit and the Emperor himself?"

"Speaking for the Frank Herbert family, I am extremely pleased to be able to provide beautifully-illustrated comic editions of Dune: House Harkonnen for Dune fans. This is the second novel I wrote with Kevin, and the new series launch brings to my mind the excitement of our national book tours around the turn of the millennium, and the wonderful receptions we received from fans," Brian Herbert said. "Our own enthusiasm for Frank Herbert's fantastic Dune series has never waned, and our spirits are constantly buoyed by the incredible support we continue to receive from readers. We hope you enjoy the new series as much as we have enjoyed writing the stories."

Brian Herbert is the son of legendary science fiction author Frank Herbert and has written the definitive biography of him, Dreamer of Dune. He also also co-manages the legacy of Frank Herbert (with Byron Merritt and Kim Herbert) and is an executive producer of the motion picture Dune and the forthcoming TV series Dune: The Sisterhood.

Anderson said: "House Harkonnen is one of my favorites of all the Dune novels Brian and I have written, dark and emotionally powerful, with some of the most spectacular scenes in the long history set in Frank Herbert's universe -- and they just cried out to be done visually. I am so excited that BOOM! is continuing our Prelude to Dune trilogy in comic form."

For better or worse, House Harkonnen is a force of nature within the Dune universe, at the center of the pivotal moments that have determined the fates of entire planets and civilizations," said editor Shantel LaRocque of BOOM! Studios. "Brian and Kevin have done an incredible job of bringing the power of the Harkonnens to life as their machinations begin to entangle them within the lives of the Atreides, leading to the explosive events of Dune."

Dune: House Harkonnen #1 features main cover art by Raymond Swanland and variant covers by Reiko Murakami, Stephanie Hans and Jeremy Bastian.

BRIEFLY

HOUSE OF SLAUGHTER: BOOM! Studios has announced the launch of a new story within the horror anthology series, House of Slaughter #11.

The arc is written by Tate Brombal, with art by Antonio Fuso.

Here's how BOOM! describes the story:

"No longer the monster hunter he once was and unaware of Aaron's fate, Jace's new mission is to protect the orphans under his care. But one of these children may be in even worse danger than Jace knows, as a strange pair of eyes watches him from the woodland shadows. Can Jace lay down his overwhelming rage and guilt long enough to save them all from the terrifying threats that surround them?"

"I'm back at the House of Slughtert feels so...good?! " Brombal said. "I knew Jace Boucher was a special character when we created him, but I was still not prepared for the outpouring of love for this tragic, vengeful Legacy Hunter. That's why I feel so privileged and excited to continue Jace's story, as we take our prodigal son home to New Orleans where his past finally comes back to haunt him. Now, I leave you with one final question: Are you ready to meet The Butcher Shop?"

House of Slaughter #11 features main cover art by Mateus Manhanini and Werther Dell'Edera with Miquel Muerto, as well as variant cover art by Danny Luckert.

FARRELL ON THE PENGUIN: Colin Farrell, appearing on Extra, talked briefly about The Penguin series for HBO MAX: "Just that it takes place about a week after The Batman ends. So Gotham is still somemwhat under water. It's lovely. It's so well written."
