IDW PUBLISHING'S ANGEL: OLD FRIENDS

IDW Publishing has provided The Continuum with a look at two covers of Angel: Old Friends #1, the launch of a five-issue mini-series that stars in November.

The covers shown here are by series artist David Messina and Zach Howard. The other covers are by Tone Rodriguez and Lee Kohse.

The series is written by Jeff Mariotte, who also wrote Angel: The Curse.

Here's how IDW describes the book:

"Angel is lured back to Los Angeles to bring an end to a string of brutal, yet strangely familiar and vampiric slayings. The case will reunite Angelthe vampire with a soulwith old friends and old enemies...but some of the roles have changed. This is the event that Angel fans have been dying forwhen Angelıs supporting cast joins him for a new comic book adventure."

"This is the story Iıve been wanting to tell," Mariotte said. "For a guy who's basically a loner, many of Angel's best moments come from his interactions with the rest of the cast. There'll be a lot of twists and turns for Angel fans in this miniseries, and I hope they all enjoy where it leads."

BRIEFLY

* Above is a first look at the covers to The Goon #14 (variant) from Dark Horse Comics, Warren Ellis' Apparat Volume 1 Trade Paperback from Avatar Press and George Perez: Storyteller from Dynamic Forces. Click on the thumbnails for larger images.

* Ex Machina, the second part of the three-part "Fact vs. Fiction," has sold out at DC Comics.

"Between this, the Eisner Awards, and the Wachowski Brothers writing an amazing introduction to our upcoming second collected edition, I'm beginning to think that I'm living in some fantasy Matrix world of my own invention," writer Brian K. Vaughan said. "But if this is real, it's thanks entirely to (artists)Tony Harris, Tom Feister, (colorist) J.D. Mettler, (editor) Ben Abernathy, and everyone at DC and WildStorm.

"It sounds like we picked up a lot of new readers with the free edition of Ex Machina #1, and I hope we pick up even more with issue #15, a great jumping-on issue and the first part of 'Off the Grid,' a new story about retired super-hero Mitchell Hundred leaving the Big Apple for the first time since being elected Mayor of New York City. This will lead directly into > 'March to War,' which deals with demonstrators on both sides of the Iraq War debate, and might be the most controversial storyline of the year."

* Coming Wednesday: Marvel news -- and much more.
