AMAZING SPIDER-MAN PREVIEW

Marvel Comics on Monday provided The Continuum with a preview of Amazing Spider-Man #531 as the build-up for its Civil War event continues.

Here's how Marvel describes the issue:

"With the cloud of Civil War looming over the Marvel Universe, Peter Parker has to help Tony Stark defeat the Superhero Registration Act and as Spider-Man stop the new Titanium Man in Amazing Spider-Man #531.

"Peter accompanies his new boss Tony Stark to a hearing in Washington about whether to pass a law forcing superheros to register their identities with the government. However, Tony ends up the object of an assassination attempt by the all-new Titanium Man and it's up to Spider-Man and his new costume to take down Shellhead's old foe."

The issue is drawn by Tyler Kirkham as part of Top Cow's recent deal with Marvel. The issue is written by J. Michael Straczynski, with a cover by Ron Garney.

X-MEN: THE LAST STAND UPDATE

Kelsey Grammer, who plays The Beast in X-Men: The Last Stand, will be a guest on the syndicated Ellen talk-show on Wednesday.

According to the show's promotions, Grammer will talk about X-Men in the show, which is being broadcast from the Unviersal Resort in Orlando, Fla.

Part of the show that day will involve the Hulk ride at Universal.

In other X-Men movie news:

* Rebecca Romijn, who returns as Mystique, will be a guest on the syndicated Live with Regis and Kelly on Tuesday.

* Reebok will be an international licensee.

NEW SMALLVILLE EPISODE

The WB has released a description for "Mercy," the Thursday, April 20 episode of Smallville.

Here's how the network describes the episode:

"A masked tormentor (guest-star Ian Tracey) takes Lionel (John Glover) hostage and orchestrates a series of elaborate games that Lionel must win in order to stay alive. After Clark (Tom Welling) tells Martha (Annette OšToole) that Lionel knows his secret, she sets out to confront him, but inadvertently becomes a pawn in the tormentoršs game and ends up fighting for her life."

The episode was written by Steven DeKnight and directed by James Marshall.
