Warner Bros. Consumer Products, on behalf of DC Comics, announced on Friday that it has entered into a multi-year deal with Mattel, which names Mattel master toy licensee for the complete DC Universe property portfolio.

Financial terms of the relationship were not released.

Under the terms of the alliance, Mattel is granted unprecedented access to the complete breadth and scope of the DC Comics vault of characters, which includes more than a thousand characters.

In addition to the rights to existing DC Comics characters, animation and motion pictures, the deal gives Mattel rights to produce toys based on future DC Universe film and animation projects that are developed and produced during the term of the agreement. Mattel will support the DC Universe characters across all of its key brands including Hot Wheels, Radica, Fisher-Price, Tyco and Mattel Games.

"Combining the power and richness of the DC Comics Universe with the unparalleled creativity and expertise of Mattel makes for an incredible alliance," said Brad Globe, president, Warner Bros. Consumer Products. "Knowing that the vast catalogue of DC Comics properties will be in the hands of the world's most successful toy manufacturer ensures a consistency and quality in product development for years to come."

"Working closely with Mattel across a broad spectrum of our characters will increase the variety available to our fans and collectors, and help introduce the DC Universe to a new generation of toy buyers. We look forward to collaborating with their dedicated team to make toys as yet undreamed of into playful reality," said Paul Levitz, president and publisher of DC Comics.

The Hero Initiative has announced a September release for The Ultimate Spider-Man #100 Project, the art book collecting all 100 Hero Initiative Ultimate Spider-Man pieces.

The book will debut at Wizard World Chicago Aug. 9-12 at the Rosemount Convention Center in Rosemount, Ill., where such contributing artists as Joe Quesada, J, Scott Campbell and Matt Wagner will be in attendance.

The 112-page book will carry a cover price of $10. Proceeds from sales of the book will continue to support Hero's effort of providing a financial safety net for yesterday's creators.

More than 80 artists were tapped to do a sketch on the blank cover of Ultimate Spider-Man #100 created specifically for The Hero Initiative. Some artists insisted on doing two covers.

The book includes art from Mark Bagley, J. Scott Campbell, Frank Cho, Neil Gaiman, Adam and Andy Kubert, George Pérez, Joe Quesada, John Romita Sr. and Jr. and more. It includes an introduction from Stan Lee.

According to the Hero Initiative, the book will have just one printing.

Sci Fi Channel has released a synopsis for "Ghost in the Machine," Friday's new episode of Painkiller Jane.

Here's how the episode is described:

"Connor knows he's having a bad day when he gets burned by his coffee machine, then catches his leg dangerously close to a running motorcycle engine. But Jane suspects his bad luck is not all a coincidence when he just misses the crushing force of a huge metal warehouse door.

"When reports start coming in of unusual deaths caused by mechanical failure, the victims are all traced back to Connor's former police squad. The team soon realizes they need to dig into Connor's past in order to save him from whatever -- or whomever -- is trying to kill him."

The episode was written by Gillian Horvath and directed by Brent Karl Clackson.
