ZACHARY QUINTO TALKS HEROES

Zachary Quinto, who plays Sylar in NBC's Heroes, said there's "no more fooling around" from his character's perspective in "Powerless," Monday's episode that concludes the show's second volume.

"He wants answers, he wants power and he wants it now," Quinto said of Sylar.

Sylar has the virus and is trying to regain his powers, making his way from Mexico to New York with Maya to confront Suresh in his apartment.

Quinto said "Powerless" is an exciting episode on many fronts.

"A lot of things come to a head," he said. "The relationship between Maya and Sylar, that betarayal, that ruthlessness really emeges in this episode. It was great fun to have that triangle with Suresh, Maya and Sylar. There's one scene where we're all sitting around the table, and we had great fun."

JEPH LOEB TALKS HULK

Jeph Loeb is re-teaming with Ed McGuinness on Marvel's new Hulk series, which launches on Jan. 4.

"When Ed McGuinness came to Marvel, he told me this was the book he was most interested in," Loeb said.. "He was brimming with ideas, sketches, redesigns, the works. I've always been a Hulk fan, Hulk: Gray is still one of my favorite things I've done at Marvel, and so teaming with Ed -- who I had a great deal of fun with Superman/Batman -- is a dream project for both of us.

"We hope that the fans and retailers like the thrill ride wrapped in a mystery that we've created."

The new series kicks off with one of his oldest cast members murder. Iron Man, She-Hulk and Leonard Samson are on the case, with all evidence pointing towards Hulk as the murderer.

The issue sports covers by McGuinness and Daniel Acuna. Marvel on Monday also released three interior pages.

ALEX SIMMONS WRITES FOR ARCHIE COMICS

Archie Comics on Monday announced that 11-year comics veteran Alex Simmons is writing a four-part story for Archie & Friends, his first work for the publisher.

"This is a real kick for me," Simmons said. "In my career I have been fortunate enough to write stories for several of the fictional characters I grew up with, including a modern play and two books involving Sherlock Holmes. Writing for Archie just raised the enjoyment bar another level."

Simmons' "Archie World Tour" will begin in Archie & Friends #117, on sale on March 13, and will continue through #120.

Here's how Archie describes "Double-A Seven," the first part of the story:

"When Archie and friends embark on a whirlwind world tour, their first stop is London, where they soon find themselves embroiled in an international spy mystery!"

IMAGE COMICS' GUTWRENCHER

Steve Niles and Keith Giffen are teaming up for Gutwrencher, a mini-series that launches in February from Image Comics/Shadowline.

"It's no secret I'm a big fan of horror." Niles said. "However, the ancient curse/serial killer sub-genre is one I haven't gotten to tackle just yet. Working with Keith is also something I've longed to do for a long time as well, so Gutwrencher was the perfect opportunity to tackle both creative desires."

Here's how Image describes the book:

"Gutwrencher begins in rural New England, when a hiker is infected with an ancient curse just 10 days before his high-school reunion. If his soul is pure he will be able to resist its blood lust, if not nothing will be able to stop him!"

Niles and Giffen are working with Shannon Eric Denton and RPG artist Anthony Hightower on the three-issue seires.

"The combination of Steve Niles' unique twists on horror sensibilities and Keith Giffen's mastery of dynamic storytelling is something most people wouldn't have expected, but works flawlessly," said Jim Valentino, Shadowline's president. "Adding Shannon Denton and Anthony Hightower to the mix is resulting in one of my favorite horror books to come in years."

The first issue will be in stores on Feb. 13.
