Marvel First Looks -- and much more!

PUNISHER: WAR ZONE FIRST IMAGE

Lionsgate has provided The Continuum the first image of Ray Stevenson as Frank Castle from the Punisher: War Zone movie.

The film, directed by Lexi Alexander, is scheduled for a Sept. 12 release.

Here's how Lionsgate describes the movie:

"Waging his one-man war on the world of organized crime, ruthless vigilante-hero Frank Castle sets his sights on overeager mob boss Billy Russoti. After Russoti is left horribly disfigured by Castle, he sets out for vengeance under his new alias: Jigsaw. With the 'Punisher Task Force' hot on his trail and the FBI unable to take Jigsaw in, Frank must stand up to the formidable army that Jigsaw has recruited before more of his evil deeds go unpunished."

DERMOT MULRONEY ON THE BATMAN

Dermot Mulroney makes his animated super-hero debut as Green Lantern in "Ring Toss," this Saturday's new episode of The Batman, scheduled to air at 11:30 a.m. (ET/PT) on Kids' WB!.

Mulroney, 44, has starred in nearly 60 films and television series, including My Best Friend's Wedding, About Schmidt, The Family Stone and Must Love Dogs. He voiced a character in Bill Plympton's 2007 animated film Hair High in addition to working with voice director Andrea Romano on The Batman.

"It's a really comfortable environment, especially recording with the entire cast and working with the pros -- that was the most fun," Mulroney said of his Batman experience. "It all came pretty natural, but then again, you're really helped through it. It's not like on a film set, where you don't really want the director to give you a line reading. Here, I rely on it. It's a different medium."

In addition to his first recording sessions, Mulroney returned for an ADR session, where he recorded to picture, fixing old dialogue and adding physical sounds for fight sequences.

"Doing all the grunts and groans has its charm, too," Mulroney said. "There are experts here in the studio who know exactly which type of groan goes with which picture, so I pretty much just do what they say. It's too difficult without the expert guidance. (Andrea) knows exactly what the sound is that you make when there's an impact and what's the sound of you throwing a punch, when you're getting blown up or when a ceiling falls on you. That may sound funny to say, but it sounds good in the recording."

Mulroney said he enjoyed the dynamic between Green Lantern and Batman.

"That was my favorite part of the storyline," he said. "With the Justice League, we're talking about a whole league of super heroes -- so how is everybody supposed to get along? They're fighting for the same cause, but there are some personality conflicts. That was a fun part to play."

Dermot's brother and sister-in-law are Kieran and Michelle Mulroney, the screenwriters on the Justice League movie from Warner Bros.

"Kieran and I grew up reading DC comics," he said. "We had a whole system where, once a week, we'd take a trip to the little store that sold the comics. I have a couple of brothers, and we'd all fight over who got which issue. So there's a long history of comics in the family."

Green Lantern follows appearances by Superman, Green Arrow and The Flash this season. Still to come are a Hawkman episode and a two-part season finale featuring the entire League.

The Continuum has learned that Mulroney is returning as Green Lantern for the season finale.

DALE KEOWN RETURNS TO THE DARKNESS

Dale Keown returns to the series he helped define with The Darkness #3 from Top Cow Productions in February.

Keown will pencil a flashback sequence in the issue, which Top Cow is calling a "turning point" in the series.

The story will detail the origin of Jackie Estacado's relationship with the mysterious Professor Kitchner. That where Keown comes in, spelling series artist Michael Broussard's present-day action when the series steps back in time to New York.

"It's a rare treat to have someone as talented as Dale step in and provide a specially produced flashback for The Darkness," writer Phil Hester said. "It makes perfect sense to have a flashback to Dale's run on the book illustrated by Dale himself. As a fan, I'm thrilled."

Keown continues to work on the Pitt/The Darkness crossover. Two issues are completed and it should be done by the end of 2008, Top Cow's Rob Levin said at the recent Wizard World Texas.
