DEVIL'S DUE TO PUBLISH SHEENA, QUEEN OF THE JUNGLE

Devil's Due Publishing announced on Tuesday that it will be publishing Sheena, Queen of the Jungle comics, under the creative direction of filmmakers Paul Aratow and Steven E. de Souza.

Devil's Due will kick off its latest property in March with The 99˘ Sheena Preview Special, followed by a limited series in June.

The special will be written by Robert Rodi with de Souza and Aratow, with pencils by Steven Cummings, as well as two covers by Tim Seeley -- one full-color image and a sketch cover.

"This is one of the coolest things we've ever worked on," said Josh Blaylock, president of Devil's Due. "Sheena is an icon, and de Souza and Aratow's re-envisioning is so well thought out, it's going to blow people away.˛

"Josh has pulled together the perfect team to restore this Golden Age heroine to her proper place in the comic pantheon." de Souza said. "I'm delighted to be part of the Sheena expedition."

"After many years of slashing through the Hollywood Jungle," Aratow said. "Sheena is finally ready to assume her queenly throne with the help of the brilliant team at Devil's Due."

Here's how Devil's Due describes the preview:

"Thought lost in a plane crash, the girl that would be known as Sheena, the powerful and beautiful Queen of the Jungle, defied logic and not only survived but thrived in the wilds of South America. Now an adult, Sheena is discovered and brought back to civilizationŠ where the war for supremacy of the urban jungle truly begins! Sheena is back, and ready for the 21st century!"

IMAGE COMICS DELAYS

Examples of the Invincible binding errors

Image Comics has informed retailers that, due to a binding error, Image is re-printing the entire run of The Complete Invincible Library Volume 1. The corrected printing will ship on Jan. 17.

"When we decided to put this collection together, we envisioned a beautiful book that perfectly captures the spirit of Invincible," said Image executive director Eric Stephenson. "When we opened the package from the printer, everyone was extremely pleased. Once we began thumbing through the book, though, it was clear the binding was sub-par."

"There is significant damage that occurred during the binding process. Many of the pages towards the beginning and end of the book are ripping out of the spine. On the signed edition, the tipped-in signature sheet has been inserted incorrectly. Simply: the binding of the book is totally unacceptable."

"Out of the 12 sample copies I got two of them were okay," said Invincible creator and writer Robert Kirkman. "The pages held together and there wasn't any damage that was noticeable -- but those other 10 copies... They were just horrible. I was devastated.

"I couldn't with good conscience allow those to reach our fans. As much as I hated the idea of these books missing the holiday selling period and what that would do to retailers, there just wasn't another option."

Stephenson said, "Given the unsavory choice between releasing a poor book on time and delaying the release of a perfect book, the best solution is clearly the latter. We will not ask our fans and retailers to accept faulty work. We apologize to our retailers and fans for this situation, but want everyone to know that we are taking every step we can to make sure that the corrected version of this book reaches them as quickly as possible. We can assure you that the book will be worth the wait."

In related news, Top Cow Productions announced on Monday that, due to a computer-related complication, Freshmen II #2, by Seth Green, Hugh Sterbokov and Will Conrad, will be delayed until Dec. 20.

"Here at Top Cow, we've really been working hard to keep our books shipping in a timely manner," said Filip Sablik, vice-president of marketing and sales.

"Unfortunately, there's very little you can do to predict a last-minute computer crash. Thanks to cooperation from our printer and the hard work of our editorial staff, we'll only be delayed one week. We appreciate everyone's patience."
