SETH ROGEN ON THE SIMPSONS

Seth Rogen -- who co-wrote and guest-stars in Sunday's season premiere of The Simpsons on Fox -- said his upcoming movie role helped with the episode.

"In real life, I'm doing a movie where I'm playing the Green Hornet, and so I've had to get in shape for the movie," Rogen said. "So we kind of thought it was funny if Homer gets cast as a super-hero and I play his personal trainer, who is getting him into shape."

In the episode, "Homer the Whopper," Comic Book Guy casts Homer as the lead in Everyman, a feature film based on the new comic book superhero he created. To whip him into shape for the part, the movie studio hires celebrity fitness trainer Lyle McCarthy (played by Rogen) but Homer has trouble sticking to his new, healthy regimen.

Rogen and Evan Goldberg pitched several ideas, then wrote an outline and a draft of the episode before The Simpsons creators added their touches. "I was shocked at how much was there (from the original)," Rogen said.

Rogen said working with The Simpsons staff and cast was "a dream come true."

"I've been a fan of The Simpsons since it came on," he said. "I watched it on the Tracey Ullman show when it was just little interstitial shorts, and I vividly remember being excited that they were getting their own show and I've watched it ever since reliousgly."
